Duffy's Sports Grill - Plantation, FL

Rodeo Burger
BBR = 6.45

My buddy Kris called me up spur of the moment to go to lunch, so I took a break from my "real job" and decided to meet him and my friend Mike at Duffy's Sports Grill and thought why don't we start the week off right with a burger!? Anyways, Duffy's is nothing new to me. It is one of my "local" bars where I go to watch sports games or grab some food as my friend's roommate is a cook there and naturally he has a MVP All Star Card, which means free food for me! (Thanks for lunch by the way Kris)

The bar food here is pretty good, but today I decided I was here for "work" so I went with the Rodeo Burger, which is a 1/2 pound of Angus beef with BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese, and onion rings on top. For the side I chose steak fries. Also, we went with the Crab Rangoon appetizer which is a new item on the menu. And for the drink, just plain old water.

The appetizer soon arrived and it looked, well, extremely appetizing. They serve it with a sweet Thai chili sauce and soy sauce. I actually liked it. The Rangoon was still hot and crispy and I found the Thai chili sauce quite tasty. I'm not sure how much crab was actually in it, but it did hold a lot of cheese. Now I'm no Asian food expert, I actually prefer "American" Chinese food, but I thought it was a good start to the meal.

When the burger arrived I was surprised to find that it was stacked high with onion rings. They actually had to skewer the patty to hold the slinky of rings in place. Ok so how do I eat this? Well naturally I had to remove some of the rings and squish the rest down. After that, I cut the burger in half to test the cook's skills. I ordered medium rare, but I found it to be closer to medium. Now for a lift of the bun to examine the meat; Looks like it was cooked on a grill, but didn't have the crusty exterior I was hoping for. Maybe the grill wasn't up to temp? The BBQ sauce seemed to be glazed onto the top and bottom of the patty. Time for the taste test. Okay, so at first bite it was just alright. My biggest issue with the burger was with the patty itself. As I already stated it wasn't cooked perfectly to temp and didn't have a good crust, and it also wasn't very flavorful or juicy. I would say it was a semi-dry burger. You should be able to squeeze the meat and see the beef drippings run out. The moisture came from the BBQ sauce which was "nothing special" (A seemingly overused description of mine). It tasted...well plain. The onion rings were just okay. They  seemed to lack any seasoning, but I did like the steak fries. They were thick cut with the skins still on. I love the skin.

On a side note if you happen to go to this Duffy's location and get Becky as your server, please say "Give me that Becky!" She loves it!
